چکیده

The Meissner effect for superconductors in spacetimes with tor-sion is revisited. Two new physical interpretations are presented. The first considers the Landau-Ginzburg theory yields a new symmetry-breaking vacuum depending on torsion. In the second interpretation a gravitational Meissner torsional effect where when the Higgs field vanishes, torsion and electromagnetic fields need not vanish and outside the Abrikosov tubes a torsion vector analogous to the Maxwell potential is obtained. The analogy is even stronger if we think that in this case the torsion vector has to be derivable from a torsion potential .Another solution of Landau-Ginzburg equation is shown to lead naturally to the geometrization of the electromagnetism in terms of the torsion field. As an application we show that Landau-Ginzburg equations extended to Cartan spaces allow us to determine torsion in the case when the order parameter is frozen to a minimum. It is shown that the presence of torsion in solid state physics changes the ground state of the superfluid phases.

Fermions on quantized vortices in superfluids and superconductors Lecture Notes Summer School on Condensed Matter Physics: Symmetry of the Order Parameter in High Temperature Superconductors

The bound states of fermions in cores of quantized vortices in superconductors and Fermi superfluids and their influence on the vortex dynamics are discussed. The role of the spectral flow of the fermions through the gap nodes is emphasized. [email protected]

Linear defects are generic in continuous media. In quantum systems they appear as topological line defects which are associated with a circulating persistent current. In relativistic quantum vacuum they are known as cosmic strings, in superconductors as quantized flux lines, and in superfluids and low-density atomic Bose-Einstein condensates as quantized vortex lines. We discuss unconventional ...

Spectral Flow and Vortex Dynamics in Superfluids, Superconductors and Ferromagnets

We discuss the nondissipative Magnus-type force acting on linear defects in Fermi systems, such as Abrikosov vortices in superconductors, singular and continuous vortices in superfluid phases of He, magnetic vortices and skyrmions in ferromagnets. Spectral flow of fermion zero modes in the vortex core gives an essential contribution to the nondissipative force, which is confirmed in Manchester ...
